This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: deeply forked caudal fin except; absence of centrally projecting hooks on proximal lepidotrichia of median caudal-fin rays; jaws equal in length; dorsal-to-adipose distance 18.8%-28.7% SL; adipose-fin base 21.1%-27.1%; body depth at anus 15.1%-19.5% SL; total vertebrae 38; caudal peduncle 13.0%-18.3% SL; head 11.9%-15.0% SL; absence of a lateral line (Ref. 132442).
