背面の脊椎 (合計) : 2 - 3; 背鰭 (合計) : 7 - 8; 肛門の骨: 3; 臀鰭: 11 - 14. Compressed body, dorsal fin inserted behind the origin of pelvic fins. Mouth subterminal, lower jaw at an angle of 25-40° to the horizontal. Pharyngeal teeth 5-5. Silvery body with a dark lateral band.
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal.
Found in ponds and slow-moving rivers in very dense populations.
