Etymology: Occella: Latin, diminutive, ocellus, oculus = eye (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Masunosuke Kazawa of Sapporo was a graduate student at Stanford University. According to the etymology, he was “…engaged in the study of the fishes of the Hokkaido.” We have been unable to identify him further. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

背棘 (總數) : 13 - 15; 背的軟條 (總數) : 6 - 9; 臀棘: 0; 臀鰭軟條: 23 - 27. Differs from other species of Ocella in having large and small subpectoral plates, 3 blackish -brown bands on pectoral fin, 43 or more lateral line plates, 13 to 15 dorsal spines and 15 to 16 anal fin rays.
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
有別於其他 Ocella 的種有大的與小的子胸鰭碟,3條暗褐色的條紋在胸鰭, 43個或更多側線碟上,13 到 15個背棘與 15 到 16個臀鰭棘條。
