This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: presence of a conspicuous midlateral stripe; midlateral stripe diffuse narrow or broad, straight band of dark pigmentation passing from the caudal blotch to midbody or extending to the opercle; strongly demarcated and distinctively club-shaped anteriorly; presence of an anterior extension of the club-shaped midlateral stripe in males; absence of humeral spot; 21-23 lateral line scales; caudal peduncle depth 9.0-10.6% of SL; absence of an anterior extension of a club-shaped midlateral stripe in males; absence of a humeral spot; pored lateral line scales 21-23; presence of a dark club-shaped midlateral stripe; and absence of dark blotches (Ref. 131251).
