Etymology: Cambeva: Probably derived from the Tupi-Guarani, is a popular name for trichomycterid fishes in southern and south-eastern Brazil (Ref. 119381); capetinga: Name 'capetinga' from the type locality of the species, Ribeirao da Capetinga.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: 20 or 22 dorsal procurrent caudal-fin rays; 30-32 interopercular odontodes; 26-28 premaxillary teeth; 27-32 dentary teeth; medial margin of the autopalatine slightly sinuous; sesamoid supraorbital lacking a lateral projection; anterior portion of the mesethmoid just posterior to cornu base relatively broad; dorsal process of the opercle stick-shaped; anterior portion of the preopercle not distinctively elongated; parurohyal foramen rudimentary; and posterior process of the parurohyal long, its length about three quarters of lateral process length (Ref 138050).

This species inhabits moderate flowing streams 50 cm deep and about 2 m wide, with a substrate composed of pebbles and sand (Ref. 138050).
