Etymology: casalinuovoi: Name 'casalinuovoi' in honor of the late Miguel Angel Casalinuovo, ichthyologist from Argentina, whom we collected some specimens of the species with.

Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
This species inhabits shallow (about 20 cm depth), fast-flowing waters with a substrate composed of sand and gravel. They sometimes dwell along the muddy riverbanks, hiding under woody debris (Ref. 137870).
