Etymology: Thamnaconus: Greek, thamna = shrub + Greek, konos, -ou = cone (Ref. 45335)garretti: Named for Andrew J. Gerrett, a naturalist who collected in the Hawaiian Islands in 1856-1864.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: body behind theh eye covered with many longitudinal, narrow dark stripes; pelvic flap with many narrow dark stripes running almost parallel to postero-ventral edge of pelvic flap; head with similar narrow dark stripes but at right angles to those on pelvic flap (Ref. 124778)..
