Etymology: Badis: 'badis' is presumably a Bengali local name, possibly derived from 'bhedo' or 'bheda', but it lacks a proper reference. Probably incorrect etymology (J. Müller, pers. comm., April 2021, after information from native speakers); kaladanensis: Named for the River drainage, the Kaladan River; an adjective.

This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: with a post nuchal hump; a conspicuous dark blotch covering superficial part of cleithrum above pectoral-fin base; with a dark anterior dorsal-fin blotch between 3rd to 5th spines (consistently present in live and preserved specimens); scales in lateral row 27-30; circumpeduncular scale rows 18-20; vertebrae 28-29; first gill arch with 9 rakers; no dark blotch on the dorsolateral aspect of caudal peduncle (Ref. 124777).
Body shape (shape guide): fusiform / normal; Cross section: compressed.
This species is found in association with Olyra saginata, Pethia expletiforis, Rasbora rasbora and R. daniconius (Ref. 124777).
