Etymology: Physoschistura: Greek, physa = bellows + Greek, schizein = divided + Greek, oura = tail (Ref. 45335); absumbra: Named from the mythology of the Wa people, the predominant ethnic minority along the Sinoburmese border in this region. Derived from Latin words absum, to be absent; and umbra, shadow, an allusion to the Wa’s mythic ancestors, from whom it is said to cast no shadows. A noun in apposition.

ေက်ာဘက္တြင္ရွိေသာ ေရယက္၌ပါေသာ အမွ်င္မ်ား (စုစုေပါင္း) : 13 - 14; စအိုနားတြင္ရွိျပီး နူးညံ့ေသာေရယက္အမွ်င္မ်ား: 8; ေက်ာရိုးမ်ား: 36 - 38. Physoschistura absumbra is easily diganosed from all species of Physoschistura by the absence of a suborbital lobe and by having a complete lateral line and a continuous lower jaw. It further differs from all congeners by the following characters: head depth at nape 13-14% SL; head length dorsally 23-25% SL, laterally 26-28% SL; body depth 15-17% SL; caudal-peduncle depth 13--4% SL; flank with 9-12 regular bars; basicaudal bar complete; and a maximum adult size of about 44 mm SL (Ref. 116525).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Collected from a small tributary, about 2 m wide and 30 cm deep at the sampling site, running into
the Nangunhe River. Not encountered in the mainstem of the Nangunhe River. Co-occurred with two nemacheilids, Schistura cryptofasciata and S. disparizona, both were found in the mainstem (Ref. 116525).
