Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335); obliquofascia: The specific name is derived from oblique (prefix), meaning slanting or inclining in direction, and fascia (Latin), meaning band, in reference to the obliquely arranged bars on the body.

Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal) : 12 - 13; Anale zachte stralen: 9. Diagnosed from congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: body with 12-14 obliquely arranged olivaceous dark bars; lateral line complete with 104-112 pores; dorsal fin with 3-4 simple and 8½ branched rays, marked with irregularly arranged black spots; caudal fin with 8+8 branched rays, slightly emarginated, lobes equal in length; dorsal adipose crest prominent; preorperculo-mandibular canal with 10-11 pores; absence of suborbital flap. (Ref. 93048).
