Vértebras: 27 - 28. Distinguished from its congeners by possessing a more depressed head profile, a more developed and conspicuous tuft of enlarged odontodes on the tip of the supraoccipital and a partially enclosed arrector fossae.
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Found in deforested areas in moderate to fast current streams and in association with aquatic macrophytes or in the submerged portion of marginal vegetation. Feeds on filamentous blue-green algae, chlorophytes, diatoms and periderm (Ref. 57842).
