Etymology: Tanichthys:Named for Mr Tan Kam Fei, the famous Scout of Kwangtung; for his interest in ichthyology and encouraging the young scouts toward the study of nature. Eponymy: Tan Kam Fei was a Chinese boy-scout leader who discovered and collected the first specimens of the minnows (1932) and brought them to the attention of the author.
