Etymology: Eustomias: Greek, eu = good + Greek, stoma = mouth (Ref. 45335); cancriensis: From the Latin cancer, crab, and -ensis, denoting a locality, in reference to the distribution of this species along the Tropic of Cancer.

Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 25; Rayons mous anaux: 39; Vertèbres: 68. A single terminal bulb 0.7-1.3% SL. Barbel length 47=53% SL. Short terminal filaments 3-6; 1 filament thicker and longer than others; all filaments simple or forked and lacking bulblets. Axis of stem pigmented ; no spot at the base of the bulb. No external pigment spots proximal to bulb. External chevron-shaped or roundish striated areas unpigmented. Middorsal paired spots between occiput and dorsal-fin origin 7 - 9(?) (Ref. 11333).
