Etymology: Protogobius: Greek, protos = the first + see under Gobius; attiti: Named for Chief Attiti, a Melanesian chief of the tribe Goro.
Eponymy: Chief Attiti is one of the Melanesian chiefs of the Goro tribe, New Caledonia. He was honoured because he was “…quick to recognize the new goby, but stated there was no name for it among the Melanesians”. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

ေက်ာဆူးေတာင္ (စုစုေပါင္း) : 8 - 9; ေက်ာဘက္တြင္ရွိေသာ ေရယက္၌ပါေသာ အမွ်င္မ်ား (စုစုေပါင္း) : 8. Male and female with several rows of red spots on dorsal midline. Males with distal half of first dorsal red and with 6 - 8 black bars on the trunk. Females with a large black spot on its first dorsal fin (Ref. 37400); lacks an infraorbital lateral canal (Ref. 92840).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Adults prefer areas with gravel and overhanging vegetation in slower places of swift, clear streams; rocks and gravel usually coated with detritus. They dive into the substrate when threatened, with its eyes, mouth and first dorsal fin above the gravel. They feed mainly on small freshwater crustaceans, especially transparent shrimp which are abundant. Ref. for amphidromous (Keith et al, in press 2014).
