Etymology: Gymnocypris: Greek, gymnos = naked + Greek, Kypris, other name for Aphrodite, proceeding from Cyprus (Kypris), Greek, kyprinos = carp (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: F L Ecklon was an assistant to Przewalski (q.v.) on his second expedition into Tibet (1883–1885). Przewalski wrote that his services were ‘invaluable’, but very little seems to be recorded of him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
