Etymology: Pseudoraja: Greek, pseudes = false + Latin, raja = a sting ray (Raja sp.) (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: E N Fischer made skilful drawings for the describers’ publications on fishes from the Gulf of Maine, so this skate was named after him. We have been unable to find out anything more about him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
