Etymology: Schistura: Greek, schizein = to divide + Greek, oura = tail; an allusion to forked caudal fins (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Kongpheng Bouakhamvongsa works at the Department of Livestock and Veterinary, Ministry of Agriculture, Laos and is the Laotian national officer, Assessment of Fisheries Component, Mekong River Commission. He assisted Kottelat in the field (1997). (Ref. 128868), visit book page.

Anterior nostril found on the front side of a flap-like tube (Ref. 27732). Caudal peduncle length 5.3-6.2 times in SL, depth 7.3-8.8 times in SL; eye continuous with dorsal head profile or slightly protruding (Ref. 43281).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Seems to prefer fast flowing waters with stones and boulders (Ref. 27732).
