Etymology: Fundulus: Latin, fundus = bottom; a peculiar name for a topminnow, coined for a bottom species of Atlantic coast being "the abode of the fundulus mudfish" (Ref. 45335); grandis: From the Latin words fundus=bottom, and grandis=big, large; full grown (Ref. 79012).

Western Atlantic: northeastern Florida to Key West in USA and northern Gulf of Mexico to Cuba.

ก้านครีบอ่อนที่หาง (รวม) : 11 - 12; ก้านครีบอ่อนที่ก้น: 10 - 12. Small pearly spots on side (Ref. 26938).
Body shape (shape guide): elongated.
Prefers grassy bays, canals and nearby fresh water, avoiding tidal flats. Also found in marginal fresh waters. 18 cm max TL (Ref. 7251). Not a seasonal killifish. Is difficult to maintain in aquarium (Ref. 27139). Feeds on small crustaceans and other invertebrates (Ref. 26938).
