Etymology: Scopelosaurus: Greek, skopelos = a lantern fish + Greek, sauros = lizard (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: Dirk Samuel Hoedt (1813–1893) was a Dutch civil servant and naturalist, being Secretary for the Moluccas (1854–1855), where he also collected (1853–1867). Three birds are named after him. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
