Etymology: Xyrichtys: Greek, xyreo = that cuts like a knife + Greek, ichthys = fish (Ref. 45335).
Eponymy: H Blanchard was Captain of the research vessel ‘Reine-Pokou’ from which the type was taken off Ascension Island, and without whose skill the expedition could not have succeeded. (Ref. 128868), visit book page.
