Etymology: Engraulicypris: Greek, eggraulis, -eos = anchovy + Greek, kypris = the name of Aphrodite, proceeding from Kypris, (Cyprus), Greek, kyprinos = carp (Ref. 45335).

Taxonomic Remarks
Believed to be confined to the Lake Mweru system, with samples from elsewhere named as this species belonging to some other taxon (Ref. 2951); at present also reported from the Bangweulu-Chambeshi area, and from Kasanka National Park (but no voucher specimens available)(Ref. 95585).
