Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 700 - 2000 m
Distribution:  Circumglobal in southern temperate waters.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Adults uniformly dark.
