Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobionellinae
Max. size:  3.88 cm SL (male/unsexed); 3.64 cm SL (female)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 0 - 1 m
Distribution:  Asia: China.
Diagnosis:  Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 7-8; Vertebrae: 30-30. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: pectoral-fin rays usually 13-15; longitudinal scale series 30-33, with the predorsal area lacking scales; total vertebrae 30, with 12 precaudal and 18 caudal vertebrae. Colouration: head and body light gray, adorned with irregular orange markings on the cheeks and opercle (Ref. 132591)..
Biology:  This species is restricted to fast-flowing, shallow streams with a cobble substrate in the type locality, where surveyed streams ranged from 10-30 cm in depth. This goby species is characterized by its large eggs (1.5-2.1 mm in size), which it deposits on the bottom surface of the cobblestones (Ref. 132591).
