Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  8 cm NG (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; depth range 2 - 5 m
Distribution:  North America: primarily in upper Mississippi and Ohio drainages, U.S.A and Manitoba, Canada.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit cool streams. They feed on aquatic insects (Ref. 54729). They survive well in aquarium conditions and the pink lateral band of mature males make them attractive for native fish aquaria (Ref. 54726). Migratory behaviour is undetermined (Ref. 126106).
