Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
Max. size:  35 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 10 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea and especially common in the north.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-12
Biology:  Inhabits shallow waters, mainly around coral reefs, and over sandy or mud-sandy bottoms (Ref. 30573). Feeds on benthic invertebrates (Ref. 30573). Consumed fresh.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 03 December 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
