Family:  Scorpaenidae (Scorpionfishes or rockfishes), subfamily: Scorpaeninae
Max. size:  16 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 146 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: one specimen collected off Natal, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5. Probably reddish in color; large tentacle above eye, with black lower portion (Ref. 4313).
Biology:  Known from one specimen.
IUCN Red List Status: Data deficient (DD); Date assessed: 03 March 2015 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
