Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Beira, Mozambique to Natal, South Africa and Madagascar.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-11. Grey-blue in color.
Biology:  Caught usually near rocky reefs. Feeds on invertebrates, mainly crustaceans and mollusks. Utilized fresh.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 02 December 2009 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
