Family:  Opistognathidae (Jawfishes)
Max. size:  14 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 1 - 20 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-13; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 13-13. Description: Distinguished by the following characteristics: oblique scale rows about 55-64; length of upper jaw 57-64% of head length, extending about 0.6-0.9 eye diameter behind rear margin of orbit; depth of body 4.2-5.3 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Found in sandy/mud bottoms in 1-20 m (Ref 90102).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 17 September 2024 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
