Family:  Characidae (Characins; tetras), subfamily: Cheirodontinae
Max. size:  3.43 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Central America: Pacific versant rivers from Cocle Province, Panama to Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits stagnant puddles, ditches and creeks of low to moderate velocity, between 20 to 90 m elevation. Herbivorous and feeds on "aufwuchs", diatoms, filamentous algae and seeds (Ref. 36880).
