Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Tanganyika.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Not rock-bound, may migrate through the very shallow waters of the lake. Although the gut contents indicate a shrimp menu, this species has been known to ambush young cichlids. A substrate spawner which has often been observed to spawn in empty snail shells found on the sand floor (Ref. 7343).
