Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  9 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, non-migratory
Distribution:  North America: Lake Erie drainage in northwestern Ohio, USA; Mississippi River basin from central Ohio to eastern Kansas and south to northern Alabama, northern Louisiana and southern Oklahoma in the USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit flowing, usually clear and rocky, pools of creeks and small to medium rivers. Often found near emergent vegetation along the stream margin (Ref. 5723, 10294). They feed on surface insects (Ref. 10294).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 01 March 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
