Family:  Atherinopsidae (Neotropical silversides), subfamily: Menidiinae
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-neritic; brackish; marine, anadromous
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: northeastern Florida and northern Gulf of Mexico (except Louisiana and northeastern Texas) to southern Florida in USA and northern Veracruz in Mexico.
Diagnosis:  Anal soft rays: 13-19
Biology:  Adults occur in tidal creeks and marshes, in brackish or full sea waters. Never found in inland waters (Ref. 7251).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 06 December 2018 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
