Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  8.6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Ohio River basin from Muskingum River drainage in Ohio to southeast Illinois (extirpated in Illinois) and south to Tennessee River drainage in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi, USA; upper Black Warrior River system (Gulf basin) in Alabama, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit rocky pools and runs of clear, fairly fast headwaters, creeks, and small rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205), probably open substratum spawners like congeners. Migratory behaviour is undetermined (Ref. 126106).
