Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  North America: Missouri River basin in Alberta, Canada and Montana to Missouri, Mississippi River from mouth of Missouri River to mouth of Ohio River, USA; South Saskatchewan River (Hudson Bay) in extreme southern Alberta, Canada.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit sluggish pools and backwaters, usually over mud or sand, of small to large rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous, open substratum spawners (Ref. 205, 52559).
IUCN Red List Status: Near Threatened (NT); Date assessed: 14 February 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
