Family:  Gasteropelecidae (Freshwater hatchetfishes)
Max. size:  7.36 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6 - 7; dH range: 15
Distribution:  Central and South America: eastern Panama through western Colombia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Feeds on small crustaceans, larvae and mosquitoes (Ref. 26543). Aquarium specimens reach 9.0 cm TL (Ref. 1672).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 17 April 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
