Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Smiliogastrinae
Max. size:  5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Kunene (Ref. 120641), (upper) Zambezi (Ref. 11970, 7248, 120641) and Okavango River systems (Ref. 7248, 120641). Also reported from the Kwilu River (middle Congo River basin) in Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 114247).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Favors well-vegetated margins of rivers and lagoons, floodplain pools and backwaters. Feeds on insects and periphyton. Breeds in summer, laying eggs on submerged vegetation (Ref. 7248).
