Family:  Centrarchidae (Sunfishes)
Max. size:  9.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; pH range: 7 - 7.5; dH range: 8 - 12
Distribution:  North America: occurs only in the USA in Atlantic and Gulf Slope drainages below Fall Line from southern New York to lower Tombigbee River in Alabama, and south to southern Florida; and above Fall Line in New York and Pennsylvania.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits vegetated lakes, ponds, quiet sand and mud-bottomed pools and backwaters of creeks and small to medium rivers.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 30 November 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
