Family:  Carapidae (Pearlfishes), subfamily: Carapinae
Max. size:  23.2 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range - 860 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Eel-like, shallow body depth; 1 to several symphyseal fangs on dentary and premaxilla; lacking cardiform teeth, pelvic fins, and swim bladder rocker bone; a patch of ridges posteriorly on the ventral surface of the swim bladder (Ref. 34024). Tunic ridges lateral to ventral midline of swim bladder (Ref. 34024).
Biology:  Rare species (Ref. 34024). Type specimen taken from 857-860 m depth (Ref. 33021).

Threat to humans:  harmless
