Family:  Cynoglossidae (Tonguefishes), subfamily: Cynoglossinae
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; brackish; marine; depth range 10 - 30 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Atlantic: Mauritania (Ref. 5377) to Pointe-Noire, Congo.
Diagnosis:  Diagnosis: mostly cycloid scales on both sides of the body; 12-14 transversal scales between the mid-lateral line and the margino-dorsal lateral line (Ref. 81682).
Biology:  Found on sand and mud bottoms of coastal waters (Ref. 2683). Feeds on mollusks. Sold as frozen filet under the name 'filets de sole' (Ref. 5377).
