Family:  Catostomidae (Suckers), subfamily: Cycleptinae
Max. size:  93 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 5,710.0 g; max. reported age: 13 years
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  North America: Mississippi River basin from Pennsylvania to central Montana and south to Louisiana, USA; Gulf Slope drainages in the USA from Mobile Bay, Alabama to Rio Grande in Texas and New Mexico, and in Mexico.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit strong current in deep (1-2.5 m) chutes and main channels of medium to large rivers over bedrock, sand and gravel (Ref. 5723).
