Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 10 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Tomales Bay, California to Mazatlán, Mexico; throughout the Gulf of California.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults occur in bay and reef localities among eelgrass and algae. Also pelagic (Ref. 2850). Males may be mature at 5.9 cm SL. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Monogamous and always in home-ranging pairs, that is they do not defend an exclusive territory (Ref. 52884).
