Family:  Ictaluridae (North American freshwater catfishes)
Max. size:  95 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 9,750.0 g; max. reported age: 14 years
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish, potamodromous
Distribution:  North America: Rivers of the Atlantic coastal states of USA from Florida to New York.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Adults inhabit sluggish, mud-bottomed pools, open channels, and backwaters of small to large rivers; also in lakes and impoundments. They feed on wide variety of fishes, insects and crustaceans (Ref. 27549).
